BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Suresh C. Sikka is a Professor of Urology at Tulane University School of Medicine. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Biochemistry from Chandigarh University in India and his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, India (1978). Upon completion of his postdoctoral fellowships at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in 1979 and the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, California (1982), Dr. Sikka served as the Director of the Urology Laboratory Research in the Department of Surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1982, subsequently joining Tulane’s Department of Urology in 1989, where he has been associated with developing CLIA-approved clinical laboratories and directing andrology research for the last 33 years.

The Board-Certified High-complexity Clinical Lab Director (HCLD) and Clinical Consultant (CC/AAB) of the Andrology Clinic and Research Laboratories at Tulane University School of Medicine, Dr. Sikka has set up a unique state-of-the-art standardized semen analysis training program with quality control and trouble-shooting management. This program caters to the needs of many pharmaceutical companies for their multicenter clinical trials on drug safety evaluation targeting male reproductive effects as mandated by the FDA. Dr. Sikka has also developed a Central Reader Facility for sperm morphology evaluation, using the latest WHO protocols that have been used for diagnostic aspects of Tulane’s Andrology patients as well as for the subjects enrolled in such multicenter studies across the globe. For such multicenter studies, which bring significant amount of funding to Tulane University and the Department of Urology (total of $27 million +), Dr. Sikka has thus far trained and certified more than 900 technicians and managed their quality control throughout these studies.

An Expert Panel Member on Standardization of Penile Doppler Ultrasound Technology and a Study Section Reviewer for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other agencies in the area of reproductive toxicology, Dr. Sikka has published more than 220 peer-reviewed articles, many book chapters, numerous abstracts, and recently authored a book titled, Bioenvironmental Issues Affecting Male Reproductive & Sexual Health.
