BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Barrios was awarded his M.D. from San Carlos University School of Medicine, Guatemala City, Guatemala and his M.P.H. from Tulane University Health Sciences Center, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Department of Health Systems Management. Formerly a consultant for the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization in San Salvador, El Salvador, Central America, he completed a Health Administration Residency at the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana and a Health Care Management fellowship at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. His managerial experience also includes administrative roles at New Orleans General Hospital, The Pain and Rehabilitation Center, and the Tulane University Hospital and Clinic. Dr. Barrios is also an active consultant frequently retained by institutions of the private health sector in Latin America as a health care management expert. Dr. Barrios has served as a guest lecturer at medical meetings and hospital conferences throughout Mexico and Central and South America. He currently serves as Director of International Medical Programs for Tulane University Health Sciences Center and has been actively working with medical schools and medical associations throughout developing countries, addressing the subjects of Hospital and Health Care Management and Health Systems Financing. Dr. Barrios is also on the faculty of the Department of Health Systems Management at the Tulane School of Public Health and the faculty of the Department of Urology at the Tulane University School of Medicine. In the Department of Urology, Dr. Barrios serves as Director and International Liaison for Advanced Urological Care.
